College Bound: The JIT Mission is Mobilized on June 19!

On Saturday, June 19, the Just in Time extended family came together to give four dozen transitioning foster youth the resources, encouragement and commitment they need to begin a new life chapter as college students. They met potential lifelong mentors and successful JIT College Bound Alumni, received laptops and printers, learned valuable tips on money management, legal matters and practical purchases, got an introduction to the additional help offered by the JIT Champions, and they paired up with a JIT volunteer guide for a shopping spree to buy essential dorm set-ups and school supplies at the Mission Valley Target stores.

It was an incredible day that fulfilled the JIT mission for a new group of dedicated, deserving and grateful young people. Our promise was not only to help get them started in their first year but to also provide the consistent, caring connection to help them graduate. And your contributions of over $30,000 made it all happen.

Watch for a complete list of thank you's to all the special volunteers, contributors and partners who made the day possible! View the 2010 College Bound slide show on this page.

Louarn Sorkin: LEAD San Diego Visionary Award Winner

LEAD San Diego's Visionary Awards are the organization's annual opportunity to celebrate the work of inspirational San Diego leaders who have dedicated time, talent and treasure to many civic and community initiatives in an effort to foster positive change in the San Diego and Northern Baja region. The Community Spotlight went to JIT co-founder and advisory board member Louarn Sorkin, the very first recipient of the recognition of "leadership that improves lives through extraordinary dedication to people, organizations and causes."

Because of Louarn, a thousand prominent San Diegans from business and government heard the JIT story showcased by one of our most accomplished and consistent ambassadors. In fact, JIT was the only non-profit organization highlighted that night. Thanks to Louarn for shining another light our way.

Our Contributors: Making the JIT Mission Possible

We are extremely grateful to everyone who made an investment in our youth during May and June by making contributions big and small, but all essential to delivering our JIT programs.

Special thanks to the Vaughn family for hosting an event to benefit College Bound, Soroptimist International of La Jolla for their incredible continued support, Zocalo Restaurant in Old Town and their 200 benefit golf tournament, the Optimist Club of Carlsbad, artist Jenny Simon and the Monarch Gallery in La Jolla. And a HUGE thank you to the 112 contributors who help us raise almost $12,000 so far in our online JIT $30 Challenge!

Just in Time couldn't exist without you.
