JIT Asset Advisors work with youth on practical matters like negotiating purchasing a car or car insurance. An advisor would also be helpful with health insurance, such as what medical care options are available. Another area is evaluation of rental contracts.
Success Story: A young lady being helped by JIT took her car in for repairs because the wheel was wobbly and loose. She was quoted nearly $1,000 for repairs including new struts, shocks, and alignment. She received two other quotes but unfortunately told these shops what repairs had already been recommended. After she had a consult with JIT Asset Advisor Don Meredith, they discovered that most of the work quoted was unnecessary. The estimate for her car was less than $100, equating to a savings of $900!
While most young people can ask their parents or family for advice regarding cars, housing, and the like, our transitioning foster youth often don't have that support system. JIT Asset Advisor, helps an individual youth or groups with essential skills on how to manage their assets. Most typical assets our youth need advice with include:
- Cars: purchasing, insurance, maintenance, registration, loans, payments, etc.
- Housing: rental contracts, dealing with landlords and roommates, maintenance, purchasing
- Healthcare: insurance options, payments, dental, vision, general information
If you have knowledge regarding other assets, please list them on your volunteer application. Our youth experience all sorts of incidents, so your skills are essential!
