September 12,2009 - My First Home Program
JIT's My First Home program helped six youths from Imperial Beach, to El Cajon, to Vista!!! One youth, attending school in Los Angeles, drove all the way down here herself and picked up some needed household goods! Yes, one of our youth does have a spare tire in his front seat. It's the only way we could fit everything in his trunk! He was all smiles when he left. Below is a photo of two new volunteers from Mesa College, psychology majors, Ana and Erika, with our volunteer Tony!!! Thank you, Terry, Mike S, Keith, Grace, and Tanya.
July 26,2009 - College Bound '09 A HUGE Success!
On Saturday, July 26, forty-five emancipated and eager foster youth descended on Target's Midway Drive store, along with Just in Time for Foster Youth volunteers, to purchase the basic dormitory and school supplies they will need for college this fall. Generous donations from the Rancho Santa Fe Women's Fund, the McCarthy Foundation, and The Thursday Club provided each youth with a laptop, a printer, and a Target Gift Card to purchase dorm furnishings and school supplies. Managed Solution, Inc. provided laptops at a discount, loaded with full software, and will give tech support while the youth are in college. "Keep in Touch" volunteers from Just in Time have been assigned to stay in contact with youth throughout the school year to offer encouragement and additional assistance. Colleges these former foster youth will be entering include: UCLA, UCSD, Loyola University Chicago, San Diego State, San Francisco State, Humboldt, Point Loma Nazarene, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State San Marcos, Cuyamaca Community College, Grossmont Community College, Mira Costa Community College, Southwestern Community College, San Diego City College, and Palomar Community College.

They prepared two cooked and one uncooked pizzas, a side vegetable, and fresh salad. Each youth also created his/her own low-fat variation of salad dressing. February 8, 2009 - Solana Beach Presbyterian Church Assists JIT with "My First Home" Program
The Solana Beach Presbyterian Church (SBPC) partnered with JIT to collect and distribute furniture and home furnishings to four JIT youth. The SBPC gathered more than 45 volunteers to assist our young people with their needs. Veronica, a JIT youth, lived in a totally empty studio apartment. By the time the volunteers left, she had a furnished apartment complete with a bed, linens, kitchen items, artwork, and food. Veronica was blown away by the support of SBPC and JIT.
