Programs and Collaborations

Since its creation, Just In Time has assisted approximately 3,000 youth. In fiscal year 2008 alone, JIT provided over $260,000 in critical assistance to more than 600 former San Diego foster through our major programs and collaborations.

For program funding, we rely on donations from the general public and grants.

Emergency/Basic Needs Program provides immediate financial support in emergency situations that may include rent money, bus passes, gas cards, interview clothing, and vehicle repair. We also provide youth with grocery gift cards for immediate food relief.

My First Home Program provides gently used and new furnishings for a youth's first home and organizes community volunteers to help with the actual setup.

Educational Program/College Bound provides former foster youth with a volunteer mentor, computers, software, printers, additional tech tools, books and school supplies, basic furnishings for dormitory rooms or college apartments, and school supplies. We also offer budget guidance and tips on legal matters at the College Bound award ceremony.

Vocational Program provides former foster youth with up to $500 of vocational and education tools as well as the opportunity to connect with a Just in Time mentor. We celebrate their award with their sponsors and members of the community at Spring into Success each year.

Long-term Sponsorship/Mentoring Program provides a board member or volunteer to work one-on-one with a Just in Time youth to identify his/her needs, give life guidance, and connect the youth with all of Just in Time's program resources. This assistance can be maintained throughout a four to five year period.

Opportunity Passport Program provides financial literacy courses and a ‘matched savings” program.

Collaboration: L.E.A.P. provides guidance and support for a council of foster youth actively working in the community to raise awareness and change attitudes affecting emancipated youth.

Special Program: Nancy’s Chop and Chat
