L.E.A.P.

LEAP represents a significant collaboration to further the JIT mission. Acting as a representative voice for young people in foster care, the LEAP Council allows youth to play a vital part in encouraging their peers to enroll and actively participate in various community services. Through regular board meetings, special events, activities, surveys and advocacy, the LEAP Council is an effective communications platform, serving as a direct link to San Diego County foster youth as well as local, state, and national agencies, government bodies, and the community-at-large.

To facilitate these efforts, JIT provides financial support to the LEAP Council and is a sponsor of their annual "Speak Out" event. Each year, former foster youth are invited to a youth only forum to "speak out" about their experiences in foster care and discuss how our community can make better decisions to positively affect our foster youth population in San Diego. The LEAP Council is a subcommittee of the Commission on Children, Youth and Families.
