Changing Lanes

Changing Lanes is a collaborative initiative designed to empower transition-age foster youth to become good drivers, purchase reliable transportation, and create a foundation for maintaining responsible vehicle ownership. This expands access to jobs and other life opportunities while building good credit. The components include helping participants obtain their permits, pass their driving test, buy affordable cars, and obtain insurance at reasonable rates.

Requirements:

Participants must be a former foster youth between the ages of 18-26 and:

1. Is working and/or going to school
2. Has stable housing
3. Has a valid California Identification Card (Just in Time can provide a voucher to purchase a California Identification Card for a reduced cost)

Program & Application Process:

The Changing Lanes Program will cover Driver’s Education, Behind-The-Wheel Training, and include a series of workshops and transportation focused SMART Goal planning.  Applications will be reviewed after all required documents have been submitted.  Participation in The Changing Lanes Program is approved based on program space availability.
