LEAP is organized exclusively to build the capacity for former foster youth to share their stories, connect, inspire, and advocate on behalf of fellow current and former foster youth. In providing networking experiences, public speaking opportunities, and strategic share training, LEAP provides ambassadors with the necessary skillsets to be effective and knowledgeable liaisons to Just In Time’s services, develop professional leadership skills, and give back through youth engagement, community outreach, and event planning.

What is the LEAP Council?
LEAP is comprised of former foster youth ages 18-26 that have a desire to advocate and make legislative changes that impact the lives of current and former foster youth. The LEAP council volunteers at multiple JIT and community events, often speak on panels in regards to issues impacting the foster care system, and attend Leadership development trainings to increase their capacity to make substantial changes in the community.
What are the benefits of joining the LEAP Council?
- LEAP provides participants with the necessary skill sets to be effective and knowledgeable liaisons of Just In Time’s services, develop professional leaderships skills, and give back through youth engagement, community outreach, and event planning.
- Opportunity to attend the annual Foster Youth in Action Conference in Washington D.C.

How do I become a member of LEAP?
LEAP is looking for potential council members that have a desire to make an impact on the foster care community through advocacy and awareness. Being a part of LEAP requires a one year commitment and members must be working or in school. How often does the LEAP council meet?
The LEAP council typically meets on the last Monday of each month. Meeting dates and times are subject to change however we try our best to keep the meetings during the same time each month.
